Fashion’s traditional rules expired, the new school doesn’t care either way.

By. Tavon Hamlet

The world of fashion has been overrun by black faces, finally. Designers, models, photographers, creative directors, CEOs, editors, & more have finally received the attention they deserve. For years we’ve witness runways, billboards, and offices stay one color. The publications would only highlight or boast about the lighter figures, but in recent years the world has seen more black designers and models being praise. Front offices are being run or owned by black leads and people of color now. Brands like Teflar, Mowalola, Rhude, Hanfia, Coco & Breezy Eyewear, LaQuan Smith, Most Hated, WhoDecidesWar, WNTD, & plenty more are seeing a surge in sales and attention. Social media has become obsessed with Teflar, Rhude, & Hanifa as brands but the faces behind these companies have been celebrated as well.

Corianna and Brianna Dotson, Anifa Mvuemba, Rhuigi Villasenor, Kerby Jean-Raymond, Teflar Clemens, Jerry Lorenzo, Oliver Rousteing, Aurora James, and many more have won the world over with not only their creations but also their personalities. The following has grown into a want for inside looks of their every day lives. Black publications and magazines such as Essence and Ebony are making a comeback, CRWN magazines are solidifying there publications position at the top, you can even least share your pitch via the companies website. There’s been a complete takeover, we as a community have been waiting for the day out respect is proper.

These faces will be important in years to come, for the next generations of the fashion world to see the change and the representation. The industry is growing in terms of being diverse. New faces are coming out at a rapid rate bringing life into a what was a stale, probably dying, industry, and fashion world. The young are learning, they are thriving, they aren’t taking “unqualified” or “rookie" as blocks anymore. We see models get denied opportunities for runway shows, visuals, and more. Designers, creatives, and business minds are being overlooked and silenced, not anymore. Years were put into the making for this change and all credit to those before us who have took the beaten, backlash, and faced the blocks first. It’s a beautiful thing to witness, these young creatives and business minds are the first to “not give a fuck” and do what they pleased, all while the public is watching.

The personalities of these faces are refreshing, there’s not stale or traditional energy that older designers present there’s chaotic, calm, unpredictable now. The fashion world has been flipped and the doors are wide open for everyone to come in and make a spot of their own or find a home where they are accepted. The industry has grown and the figures have shown their powers are beyond your control. The traditional rules of the fashion world have expired and even if they didn’t these new faces don’t care enough to be scared by them. The new school is making their voices heard, we must give them room to roar.
